Brash New Party Option Hampered By National’s Electoral Finance Law

Interesting comment on Whaleoil

Tooright– Unless in Act Brash can’t get access to media in an election campaign. Law designed to favor the incumbents. The electoral finance act prevents a new party a comparable share of the encumbent’s free allocations. As I say all designed to keep the power with the few. Neither Obama nor The Don(ald) as in Trump could start in NZ from their financial base.

The implication is that National/ John Key’s electoral finance law is making it pretty difficult (if not impossible) for Brash to kick off a new party, and therefore driving him to some accommodation with ACT.

My view has not changed. Brash should not join ACT in a leadership role or any role. It would be political suicide. Like dragging a sinking ship from the rocks it has founded on and then going down with that ship in deeper water.

Brash has to start a new party. If he cannot do it, then he should forget the whole thing. Which is probably what National were planning when they passed this undemocratic load of garbage act.

The one David Farrar and various other wet liberals protested against mightily when Klark wanted to introduce it, but were quiet as mice about when Key pushed it through with very little changes of significance. Maybe what we’re seeing now is the true intent of that act.

Brash and his new Party would get plenty of attention through the media.
They will be onto him like a pack of rabid dogs attempting to label him a racist, homophobe..etc etc (like they did when he wanted “one law for all”) and with the Media being completely out of touch with why Brash is doing this and the major block of the voters that support him, it will play into his hands. Go for it Brash.

The EFB proves without a shadow of doubt the Nat/Lab coalition is very real. Yet the sheeple cling to the career politician fossils as if they are all we have.

I hope Hamilton, which is the marker of political direction in this country, is an example of new leadership to the nation. The Nat/Lab coalition really needs to be punished by third party representation. Key knows it which is why he’s pushing against MMP with a binding referendum. Hope the sheeple see thru him. They won’t give up two votes anyway.

Very good metaphor, but I’m not sure I get the context.

If you’re suggesting Brash needs ACT as a way into parliament because its too hard to start a new party, I can see how that might be a practical solution to Brash’s need to be involved. However from an ideological perspective, its just too hard.

Rod Hide couldn’t make it work. Brash is not as politically astute as Hide. He won’t make it work.

ACT just has too many knuckle draggers confusing its message. Little boys with big mouths and small brains who think homosexual marriage is the issue of the century.

If Brash is going to go at all, it has to be with a new party.
