It amazes me that Assange still attracts the support he does. This guy is helping our enemies, and this clearly makes him anti-freedom. Maybe those who consider him some kind of hero can explain exactly what is gained by leaking details of facilities that are listed as vital to US and Western security. How can this possibly be justified on any grounds at all? Helping Red China, or Russia, or Al Qaeda, or the Taliban is helpful to freedom in what way exactly?
The US State Department in February 2009 asked all US missions abroad to list all installations whose loss could critically affect US national security. The list includes pipelines, communication and transport hubs. Several UK sites are listed, including cable locations, satellite sites and BAE Systems plants, and including key satellite communications sites and the places where trans-Atlantic cables make landfall. It includes a marine engineering firm in Edinburgh which is said to be “critical” for nuclear powered submarines.
There is no doubt that this is information terrorists or anyone engaged in any kind of warfare against the US and its western allies would find extremely valuable. I’m with those who say that Assange has clearly identified himself as a dangerous enemy to the US and the western world and its security, and he should be dealt with as such. The Obama administration’s inaction on this event is weak and intolerable.
