There is one thing that keeps me writing, keeps me blogging, and keeps me fighting against the left, and its the knowledge that we are winning. Not always, not ever completely, and sometimes in only the smallest of ways, but overall, if you look at the dominance the left enjoyed 10 years ago (for example) to its position today, you would have to be heartened.
We are winning thanks to a strategy that modern developments allow, and that is we have broken the left’s control of information and opinion. Those modern developments are talkback radio, cable television, and of course the internet. By using these devices, we have been able to climb the parapets of the left’s propaganda castle and fire arrows down upon them. Eventually we will have the castle, for our arrows are the truth, and the left are defending with lies, and truth will always win.
Fox News’ goes on to greater successes in the US. Audience figures just released show its total viewers for the year exceeded MSNBC, HLN, and CNN combined. That dominance came primarily at the expense of CNN which lost 29% of its total viewership in 2010 and 34% of its prime time viewers. CNN has long been an outrageous purveyor of leftist propaganda, and its going down. When it finally dies, we bloggers, along with Roger Ailes and Rush Limbaugh, can go and urinate on its grave.
The left achieved their overall political dominance over the last few decades primarily by a couple of simple circumstances. One such circumstance was their control of cable media like CNN, the major broadcast networks, and newspapers like the New York Times . The other circumstances were linked to this media control, in that the left would first formulate a political meme, and then their media propagandists would promote that meme for all they were worth.
An example of this is the recently exposed “Journolist”, where a cadre of mainstream media journalists (400 or more in this particular group) were frightened by Sarah Palin’s powerful presence at the Republican convention where she gave her opening campaign speech as candidate for VP. They immediately set about plotting a strategy to undermine her, and then went busily about their business propagating the meme they developed (Palin was “dumb and inexperienced”) to the unsuspecting people. Just like they once did to Dan Quayle.
Except this time it didn’t work as completely as back then. Although their campaign still did enormous damage, as the left’s fear of Palin increased and their efforts intensified to the point of frenzied, she still exists as a substantial political force. She appears on FOX, she frequently speaks on talkback radio, and she uses the internet to good effect. All this successfully counters the left’s manipulation of the people through propaganda released by their agents in the mainstream media.
Palin is only one example of how the left work. There are many others dealing with similar threats to the left’s political ascendancy. The Tea Party has been another victim of their vicious and cowardly propaganda campaigns. FOX News is another. Don Brash was a local (NZ) example.
The purpose of this post is to try and draw attention to where the real political battle is fought these days. People who do not use the net, or listen to talkback radio, or watch FOX news, are easy meat for the left, and those people still exist in large numbers. They represent a large pool of politically one dimensional ignorance that the left can easily manipulate to their advantage.
That is why we must not overlook the mainstream media in our battle with totalitarianism. They are the front line of the left. Their vanguard troops. Their propaganda front, and propaganda is such a powerful weapon. FOX news has weakened them considerably, but they are still able to influence the voting and thought patterns of a large slice of the population. We must defeat the left, and that means we must defeat the mainstream media.
It is therefore important that we in the blogosphere adopt positions that challenge any false meme the left put out there, and defeat those memes. Each of us as one are not so powerful, but combined, we have enormous strength. We must use that strength in the most effective way, and that way is to continue to attack and destroy the left’s mainstream media propagandists. We defeat them, we defeat the left. Utterly and entirely.

The lying leftist media aren’t going to reform until they’re forced to– and all that will force them is dwindling audience share.
I tell everybody who shows an interest in politics to get their news from Fox and the (right) blogs, but it’s going to be a slow process, weaning people away from their quick TV “news” fix. Half the time I think they just want to be told what to think.

Do the MSM still broadcast the ‘news’ at 6pm? It’s been so long since I’ve watched it they might well have replaced it with reruns of 80s Neighbours (when Kuylee was still in it) for all I know 😉
But seriously, do people still actually watch the 6 o’clock news to get their informed content on the world around them?! They’d be better informed by studying the lint they extracted from their navel.

Sadly Kris, most people *do* still get their “news” from TV at 6pm. Most of my kith & kin are in that group. Fact is, after working 6 hours for the gummint and assorted bludgers and the other 2 for themselves, they’re too knackered to go looking for the truth. After all, the nice talking heads wouldn’t lie to them would they? Aren’t there laws about that sort of thing?
Most people are either deliberately mis-informed, or willfully un-informed. There’s no “burning bridge”; they’re not hurting enough (yet) to take the time & energy to inform themselves. If/when they do, there will be blood. Until then, the left’s propaganda machine keeps rolling on. It’s also, by the way, why elections are less a contest of ideas than a lolly scramble in which the team that wins is the one that gives back the most of people’s own money.

It appears it is almost as bad in the US as it is here with the left wing, anti-ACT Herald. They continue to publish ex ACT Coddington but limit the posts in opposition to here bitter anti-ACT rants.

I love getting three “thumbs down”–it’s an indication that the comment is getting up the impotent lefty troll’s noses. 🙂

KG, More likely the talking heads and “journalists” are having a slow day and took offence to your description of them as “lying” and “leftist”. That’s supposed to be a secret and they don’t like being outed!

Absolutely no doubt about that.
Red – IMHO the internet has been the pivot on which the tide has turned (I’m not a really a Fox fan)…..and blogs like yours and KG’s have a made strong contribution.
Happy New Year!

Thanks Mawm. Same to you. It is we the people in the end who will make the difference. Each individual who turns way from collectivism and embraces liberty is doing their bit to help beat back the scourge of socialism.
