A Collection of Quotes From NZ’s Most Despicable Politician (2010)

Following on from my earlier post wherein Nick Smith was adjudged winner of The Most Despicable Politician For 2010 Award, here is a collection of quotes from Mr. Smith from when he was in opposition, and when he convinced us that he was not going to be fooled by the Climate Change movement. Although it is now widely recognised as just another socialist redistributionist scam designed to relieve us of more of our earnings and bind us with even more regulations, Smith has still turned about completely and is now an enthusiastic advocate for the UN position. Has there ever been a more spineless betrayal? (Some might say yes in John Key’s embracement of the Maori Party. More on that later.)

The madness of the government’s new carbon tax is that Nzers will be the only people in the world paying it. It will drive up the costs of living and undermine the competitiveness of NZ business for negligible environmental gain.

Labour Ministers may take pride in being toasted at international climate conferences for being so bold and brave, but there is no justification for NZ going out in the cold by itself on this issue.

A further concern is its impact on inflation, interest rates and the exchange rate. It will add to the costs of fuel and power and these flow right through the economy to basics like food. This puts pressure on inflation, which in turn drives up interest rates and the kiwi dollar.

The worst aspect of the carbon tax is that it will not make one iota of difference to NZ’s emissions.

The real difficulty the Government has got itself into with the Kyoto Protocol is going so far ahead of our major trading partners. It is National’s view that New Zealand needs to move in parallel with our most important trading partners, and it was a mistake in 2002 for this Government to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, when neither Australia nor the United States was part of it.

[while] there are no prospects of any of Government’s policy getting New Zealand out of a substantial deficit position, is the Minister telling the people of New Zealand that they will need to send a $1 billion cheque to either the Russian or the Ukraine Government to meet the commitment that it has made under the Kyoto Protocol?

We will be put into the situation of sending a billion-dollar cheque to the Government of Russia and to the Government of the Ukraine. Now, how does that help climate change? Can somebody explain to me how writing out a cheque for a billion dollars from hard-working New Zealand taxpayers and sending it off to the Russians will save a fraction of the effects of climate change?

It will not make one iota of difference. The Government has said that it will impose a carbon tax in 2007. That will not make one iota of difference, in terms of the amount of carbon emissions. It will not make any difference, at all.

You’re right Red. In terms of rank hypocrisy, Nick Smith is the most glaring example in New Zealand politics … in the 150 years of New Zealand politics. The man is a disgrace.

Smith is a piece of scum.
Shame on Key and the National Party for tolerating such a traitor in its ranks.

And as has been said before by others, many of the above type statements pre-election by National were why most of us voted for these, as it turns out, traitorous lying hypocritical scum.

Which raises the issue – Exactly how many pre-election promises have National honoured and carried through on?

Would this be worth covering as a separate topic in its own right, Red?

Absolutely. The National Party is a con-art extraordinaire of which the supporters repetitiously argue that malaria (Labour) is worse than dengue (National).
