Links to stories on Andrew Bolt’s trial in Melbourne. Prepare yourself to be angered and disgusted. So far Mr. Bolt has had to undergo five hours of cross examination. What has Australia come to?

Red this whole farce of a case is a travesty. The only mildly surprising element is how Bolt has controlled himself in the face of such outrageous attacks. But then, not so surprising really as Bolt is a Gentleman and he also has right on his side.

This thing has overtones of the Geert Wilders trial. It boils down to erosion of freedom of speech on the spurious ground of race related sensitivity. Note that this is but one line of attack on freedom of speech, we also have the religious angle and all the other lifestyle-based approaches, and those are only the attacks that come through the “balancing of human rights” method (a pernicious fraud if there ever was one, something is a right or it is not, no ifs and buts, and certainly no government mandated arbitrary definition of rights).
The other main attack is taking place through regulatory efforts and/or low-level judicial decision making, where either individuals are restricted in their freedom of speech directly, by order, or where methods of exercising freedom of speech are hampered or completely destroyed.
A third attack can be seen where information channels are effectively taken over by those propagating a certain view, best example the MSM.
Number four is of course cultural relativism and cultural marxism, which operate in tandem with the three methods above, in providing a philosophical basis for the narrowing of freedom of expression.
Fifth is the dumbing down of the population, which goes hand in hand with indoctrination through the education system, and with the creation of a Gramscian culture whereby some opinions are relegated to the “whisper” circuit as expressed in this case.

Interestingly, and as so often may be observed in all these socialist enterprises, is that they are, in fact enterprises. There is not one of these jolly do-gooder projects that does not pay off to some proselytising marxist somewhere. If you follow the money trail you’ll always end up with an individual or a group that have their fingers in the public through in some way. It is good on Bolt for calling this, and it is obvious why there is this urge to stop him. We can simply not be allowed to even have the debate. It’s another one where the emperor has no clothes, where an open argument would have the leftists defeated and shown for what they are. Let’s hope the court will adhere to principles and will let those principles prevail over false and fraudulent sentiment.

A masterful short summary, but if the court had any principles, there would be no court case Bez.

Well, KG, that’s of course a good point. I have yesterday watched the Wilders case with some trepidation and, as was to be expected, the circus will go on, and has not been stopped dead in its tracks. I am of two minds in that case, it may well be that the substantive process has more eventual helpful spin-offs than an early procedural halt. It will all depend on the freedom the court will grant to the extent of examination of witnesses, albeit that the number and scope of evidence has clearly been restricted in the preliminary phases thus far. What I am surprised about is the lack of coverage it has received thus far.

@KG: of course, and so have similar US sites, but there’s not a peep in the MSM of course, while NZ blogs are also very quit about it. I think this trial is much more significant than how it is portrayed.
