Time To End Anti Smoking Tyranny

We have people on government salaries pissing around with this kind of stuff when we’re meant to be in dire economic straits? Ridiculous. Either make cigarettes and tobacco completely illegal or leave manufacturers and retailers alone. This is rank tyranny. Fire all these fanatical little fascists harassing the tobacco industry and let the public make their own decisions on smoking. We cannot afford this lunacy any longer.

The Government’s decision to ban cigarette displays has angered one of the tobacco companies. Imperial Tobacco says it is an unreasonable approach, and not based on any evidence. Sales and Marketing Director Tony Mears says non-smokers do not suddenly decide to buy cigarettes because they see them in a dairy.

Mr Mears says evidence from Iceland and Canada shows smoking prevalence in some places has actually increased after displays have been banned. He says the New Zealand tobacco industry is already one of the most highly regulated in the world. He says adult smokers have made a choice, and should have the right to see what brands are available.

And the rank hypocrisy of [successive] Government is highlighted when they continue to take 80% tax on the price of a pack of cigarettes while tobacco companies only take 20%.

Is there any other way to look at it than the government simply “outsources” the manufacture of its tobacco products to the private sector? And in reality they can be viewed as an 80% shareholder? This is the same as a major business simply subcontracting out the manufacture of certain products, but rather than paying themselves they charge the manufacturer 80% for the privelege.

There is no way government will ever “kill the golden goose”, not at 80% return for no input. And yet they try to give the impression they’re concerned for the health of the nation. What a pack of hypocritical liars!!!

The hypocracy is staggering I went on a tour of Parliament once and saw Hone Harawera having a smoke outside on the front steps with Tau Henare… Hone is the one of the biggest denigrators of the tobacco industry – in select committees even… Unbelievable…
