Donald Trump has shot to the top of the Republican field in a new poll released Friday, buoyed in part by a wave of GOP voters with questions about President Obama’s birth certificate. Some 26 percent of Republican primary voters nationwide said they planned to vote for Trump — who has not yet publicly declared his candidacy — compared to 17 percent for second-place finisher Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney garnered 15 percent support and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was fourth with 11 percent, according to the survey from Democratic-aligned firm Public Policy Polling (PPP).
The PPP poll followed a CNN survey earlier in the week which showed Trump tied for the lead with Huckabee with 19 percent support. Thursday’s PPP poll revealed that the 64-year old Trump’s meteoric rise has been fueled by voters skeptical that Obama was truly born in Hawaii — speculation that has been avoided by most mainstream Republican politicians.
The most ardent of the so-called “birthers” are nearly three times more likely to be in favor of Trump than any other candidate, the poll showed. An earlier PPP poll of Republican primary voters revealed that over half did not believe the president was born in the country. “It’s a very important issue,” Trump has said of demanding that Obama show his birth certificate, “I’m not ashamed of having raised that issue.”
In an interview Thursday, Obama suggested it could be perilous in 2012 if Republicans nominate a candidate who seriously attempts to question his lineage. “Most people feel pretty confident the President was born where he says he was, in Hawaii. He doesn’t have horns,” Obama told ABC News. Obama leads all the Republican candidates, Trump included, in the general election, according to the PPP poll.

Trump is onto a winner. If played right and with force, Obama can be forced to resign, to avoid impeachment. I wouldn’t know how that would play out, as Biden is obviously implicit in the deceit.
Which raises another point, if Obama was ineligible, there must have been quite an organisation at work to arrange all this, scrub files/internet, buy bureaucrats etc. Imagine the power these folks wield over Obama, and what would happen to these organisations if it all comes out. The issue goes much. much further than Obama himself, and will no doubt be the reason that believers in government per se do not want that this issue is pursued.
Those who follow Beck/the Blaze will have noted that only the most ardent Beck cultists defend Beck’s stance on the BC issue.

I don’t think Trump has the makings of a President. The problem is if he does not win the GOP nomination, he’s saying that he”ll run as an independent……and that will loose the election for the Republicans. They must let him have his moment in the spotlight, let him pursue Obama’s hidden past, let the MSM waste all their energy on digging up dirt on him……but must not vote him in.

Mawm – note that Trump has also said that he’ll consider the effects of running independent on the GOP (I haven’g got the link right here, but it was in a recent interview).
I don’t see why Trump couldn’t be a good president. Note that Reagan was not very popular within GOP and was seen as an outsider as well.

According to a lawyer mate of mine in Illinois, Obama gets his US citizenship from his mother, whether or not he was actually born on US soil.
BTW he’s no Obama lover either – he’s Republican thru and thru.

My lawyer friend in Illinois quoted Title 8 Section 1401 of the US code.
“(g) A person born outside the geographical imits of the United States and Its outlying possessions of parents one of whom is an alien, and the other a citizen of the United Staes who, prior to the birth of such person, was physically present in the US or its outlying possessions for a period or periods totalling not less than 5 years, at least 2 of which were after attaining the age of 14 years.”
He states that Obama wants to keep this going as a sideshow, as it is distracting from other important problems, and that those who are persisting in promoting the sideshow really need to get to know US citizenship law.

This same argument, as you’re of course aware, is raging in the US. I just happen to have a good mate in Illinois who is a good lawyer, and I am merely passing on the info he has given to me. He believes the ‘birther’ issue is a dead end, and has given me his reasons.
What are your legal US qualifications to say that my friend has not gained his attorney status? This guy is not a kid – has been practising law now for around 25 years, and I’d take his legal opinion ahead of yours at this juncture.

Don, I don’t get the point of the secton of code you are quoting. What has this got to do with Obama being a natural born citizen as specified by the US constitution. Have you left something out?
Perhaps your RINO friend needs to study this diagram.
As for your RINO friend’s opinion on this being a deliberate distraction, could you post the proof you have to support this assertion please.
Also such an assertion would seem to fly in the face of reality such as the venomous and powerful attacks from the left on anyone who dares to raise the issue. If what your RINO friend say is true, they would be encouraging the issue, not discouraging it.
Thirdly, if it is a distraction, its not working very good. Trump is garnering massive popular support for his stand on the issue, and now leads the Republican field.
If I was in need of a lawyer, the last person I would hire is your RINO friend, who seems to have a lot of trouble with those very requirements that lawyers need the most, and that is the ability to think logically and know the facts.

Don, glad you’re not a bot, but that section of the code defines citizenship per se, not “natural born citizenship”. Note that the constitution requires that the president is a “natural born citizen”, in artII, sec1.5 it is stated thus:
“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”
I was not saying your mate is not qualified, I said he should get his fees back if he hasn’t cottoned on to the fact that the constitution trumps the code. Note that the question has not substantially been before SCOTUS yet, but is kept out on either procedural grounds in lower courts, or by refusal to allow a writ of certiorari (three attempts so far as I’m aware). This means also that it has never (despite many attempts) even reached a discovery stage, where Obama could have been forced to disclose.
I do wonder where the “this is but a distraction” argument comes from. It’s 18 months to the election, plenty of time to bring the issue to a close if enough pressure is put on. Saying it’s a non-issue is just playing the progressives in their hand, and that is either way. If it really is a non-issue it will assist them to give them the opportunity to have it come to a head close to the election, if it is a real issue, they’ll want to keep it away. Either way the current GOP strategy lets the dems frame the debate, instead of forcing them in the open.
