You have to laugh at the Libertarianz sticking the knife into Rod Hide for making ACT unpopular-
“Rodney Hide has single-handedly destroyed in a few short years a political party that promised much in its early days but has steadily lost traction because it compromised its core values and alienated its supporters.”
The Libz have been such a roaring success in building up their vote themselves. (smirk)
They should shut the hell up with their patronizing advice to Don Brash and ACT and get on with the business of growing their own party, and when they have achieved something there, they might just not look so bloody stupid in busy bodily instructing other political parties in what they should be doing.

So slimy, welfare state crony capitalists like John Banks are the best and brightest at ACT and looking for a seat?
Give me strength.

Apparently the reasoning is that Banks is a shoe-in for Epsom. I don’t know about that. If so, it’s a sensible strategy, as long as they can control his ambitions post-election, which is another story altogether.

Sigh, Bez…..so character and background doesn’t matter….just the “shoo in”……
Post modernist NZ never disappoints.

As an Epsom voter I have of course been following all these shenanagins with great interest. Can’t say I’m all that keen on John Banks, so my electorate vote will ultimately depend on who National puts up. But my party vote will most probably be for Act, as this is Act’s one shot at regaining or bettering their former 7+%.

Nothing to do with post-modernism Sika, this is called “fighting for keeps”. Please note that my point was premeditated on the the shoo-in being correct. Also note that in previous comments on this issue, I have always stated to be against Banks per-se, in fact I described him as “damaged goods”.
On another note and for everybody’s enjoyment, there is a second chapter in the Keynes-Hayek rap video, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GTQnarzmTOc#at=542
The issue they cover is command vs free market organisation. The broken window fallacy also makes an appearance.

“Against Banks per-se (sic)”?
Excellent, so you won’t be supporting this vacant, opportunistic, carpetbagger for a seat.
Thank god for that.

Sika – what’s with the (sic)? Are you a school teacher or just obnoxious?

Might come as shock, ‘per se’ has no hyphen.
Accuracy above all things Bez…..
Good to see you’re over the Banks thing.

Yeah well, it seems as if that is the conclusions shown by the polls. Disappoints the hell out of me. Bank’s has very little gravitas, and his campaigning for Auckland I thought was third rate. He constantly wanders off message. His weeping over animals is a complete turnoff. He seems strangely disconnected from the political reality.
Brash’s problem is that he’s not very good at politics, and I think his apparent support for John Banks is another example of this. Brash really has to go at it a lot smarter this time. I don’t know if he’s got that capability. I just hope he chooses his advisors well, and doesn’t start listening to poncing little narcissists like Perigo, Hooton, Ralston and all of those has beens.
The revelations of Perigo’s arrogant and presumptuous series of emails to Brash during his National Party campaign (made during his interview last week) were jarring. Brash didn’t need those kind of feminine hysterics while trying to run a serious political campaign. He needs to ensure he avoids that kind of crap this time around.

Red – I agree he can do with some good advisers and PR people. Ansel is clearly one, but I would advocate a very fresh approach, which is also pretty grassroots. Brash should (aside from the financial powerbase he draws on), set up an INTERNET/BLOGGER forum to advise him. People like the Whale and Cactus actually could have a lot to contribute.
On a very different note, this video is a must see for dimwitted green environmentalist who keep on harping about trade and how advanced economies destroy the environment. It explains at kindergarten level how economic efficiency and free trade save the environment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qdcQLWGaJoM#at=127
