Brash’s Fair Weather Friend Who Should Be The First To Get Chopped

Prior to Brash’s appointment as leader of ACT-

ACT president Chris Simmons rubbishes Dr Brash as a grumpy old egotist who snatched defeat from the mouth of victory for National in 2005 and who is not even a member of ACT. “[He is] an old man that has been passed over by the National Party previously, has not had his words heard on the 2025 taskforce by the Prime Minister. He’s angry, he’s grumpy and this is his attempt to try and destabilise us,” Mr Simmons says.

But last night he released a statement in his words “warmly welcoming” the leader-to-be. Simmons wouldn’t appear on camera this morning but 3 News asked by phone, what’s with the change of heart? “At that stage, my role as president was to support my leader, that’s how I was viewing it at that stage, I now support my new leader,” he says. Despite claiming Brash will destroy the party Simmons now says he’ll strengthen it.

Obviously the President of ACT is a man of firm conviction who says what he means without fear or favour. Yeah right. If I was Brash, the first thing I’d do would be to get rid of this duplicitous twister. ACT is a basket case, and its not hard to see why. If Brash wants to convert ACT into a meaningful political force he has to first of all get rid of the chameleons and waverers.

This indeed is the main and most important issue facing Brash, chopping all the hangers-on who go where the wind blows because their income is dependent on staying on the gravy train. This applies to the party organisation, parliamentary staffers, and most of all MP’s. A lot can be learned from observing their behavior in the recent coup and the subsequent clips on TV. In my view only Boscawen is worth his salt. Roy is downright dangerous to keep, the woman is either plain stupid or a very lousy communicator. Either way she’s gotta go. Hide could actually remain valuable, but that depends entirely on whether he can cope with having been demoted and loosing a lot of baubles. He is in my view better than Banks. This issue will depend on polling in Epsom, and this is presumably what drives Brash’s position.

Agree with all of that Bez. Hide just seems to have lost the momentum he once had. If he could regain that he would be so much better than Banks. And even if he couldn’t, still better than Banks.

Why Roy is still hanging around there at all completely mystifies me.
