This has always confused me: While conservatives and Bible based Christians have generally always voted Republican [small government, etc] WHY have most American Jews ALWAYS voted Democrat, especially when the Democrats have ALWAYS been anti-Israel and usually anti-Semitic?
Anyone got any ideas?

It goes back to the Depression and Roosevelt. FDR courted the Jews in New York even before his run for the Presidency. Jews were a large voting bloc in NYC (and Upstate too.) thus FDR courting them helped him to become Governor.
After Roosevelt Truman recognized Israel. He did nothing else, but being the first to recognize Israel gave legitimacy to the nation. Eisenhower on the the other hand did everything he could to destroy Israel (he wanted to placate the Arabs).
Thus Jews being fond of the Democrats. But now they are very disappointed in the party and are leaving it. Perhaps not for the GOP, but they are taking their votes and more importantly, their money from the Democrats.

Amongst the Jews I have known their society/religion has always tended towards care of those less well off, the oppressed, the hard done by, and the ill or lame. They are generous, they are caring, they look after the aged, the ill and the poor. It might be the teachings of the Torah, or it might be the hardships they, as a religion and people, have been through. They work hard, they stand by each other, they support each other…and they look after each other.
Unfortunately they think that this is what the Democratic Party stands for………..and what Communism/Socialism will achieve.

It IS the teaching of the Torah. The Torah teaches us to help our fellow man (regardless of race, religion, etc…). The commandment to give to charity is so strong that even the poorest member of the community will give the smallest coin to a charity for someone is poorer than he/she is.
For a long time Jews have seen the Democratic Party this way. But when they look at the GOP they see Ron Paul and his anti-Semitism. So they have stayed with the Democrats. But I think the time is now for them to leave. They aren’t joining the GOP, they are going with no party, Independent. But they are leaving!
It is a start.
