Although I don’t like the outcomes we’ve experienced from MMP, its always puzzled me as to why people have not taken fuller advantage of what it offers. We’ve seen what can happen. All you need is a few votes, and you can sweat the power hungry major parties for the baubles of office and who knows what else.
Under MMP, the playing field is wide open for all kinds of political issues, and its always struck me as strange that people who are victimised by the permanent political class don’t rise up and do something about it, using the vagaries of the MMP system to change the things that piss them off.
Take motorists for example. They’re the biggest victims of UN Agenda 21, and are hounded by all parties, taxed and regulated to death, and the objective of course is to destroy the motor car and the concept of privately owned transport.
The AA are a bunch of slithering big government toadies. Not one damn party takes the motorist’s part. They’re all locked into the Agenda 21 plan. High insurance, high registration fees, high fuel taxes, very costly penalties for minor infringements. Don’t be mistaken friends, these damn for-the-greater-good socialist control freaks want us out of our cars and in their damn buses and trains. (and on bikes, its healthy you know)
Now, cars are a major voting pool. I read somewhere that NZ has one of the highest ratios of car ownership in the western world. Imagine mining that sector for votes. Currently motorists are getting ripped off even more than usual by the National Party, who under Transport Czar Steven Joyce, have stuck speed cameras up all over the country and in a few short years have doubled the tickets issued to 628,000.
Imagine the bonanza from that cash flow. It would pay for so many Koru Club memberships while these liars and hypocrites flit about the country telling us its all for our own good. Probably with a chauffeur driven limousine at each end of their flight.
Why not use the advantages of MMP to mount an offensive against this thievery? Why not start a political party that only has one objective, and that is the removal of speed cameras from our roads. I reckon it would, with the right publicity, draw votes in twice the number at least as many of the minor parties. Its an issue that will resonate with the apolitical motorist pissed off with the onslaught against him, and there are plenty of those about.
The party wouldn’t need a majority. Just enough votes and therefore enough political clout to negotiate with the major parties. Imagine sending all those commies in marginal seats a simple questionnaire asking if they’re for or against. It would have them filling their pants.
Any other views out there on this issue?

They had a few fixed speed cameras in South Westland.
They took them out.
They didn’t work too well when the rain got in through the bullet holes.

Yesterday on Jim Moras they discussed this and the excellent Clive Mathew Wi;son of the dog and Lemon Car Buyers Guide said
we have a “speed fixated police force that flies in the face of the best scientific data”
He quotes from a 2009 AA study of 300 fatal crashes.80 % occured below the speed limit. Many are caused by “renegades” with no care for the law or safety.
Have a listen its 20 minutes in at the endof the show.

Those stats would be poo poohed by the revenue nazis Kowtow because…well , just because! They dont want to hear scientific stats that make sense! Shit, that would fuck up their God given right to steal from us. We all know most serious accidents ( and I wont use the pc word ” crash ” ) are caused by fucktards with no rego , no warrant , no brains..scant disregard for the law , pissed out of their shrivelled brains, on their 8th drink drive charge who seem to fall below the radar of the revenue collectors. Too hard basket. Too much paperwork. Far easier to take the cream from joe public who are travelling 4 k’s over the limit.

Red, you don’t usually pull posts cept by comrades imploding……however the RRM comment example is going to be used as a brick in the net censorship / approved speech code try on coming. Incitement to violence with no obvious sarcasm, irony etc is not a good look….however, it’s your website your rules.
