It had to come. The idiot Libertarians who have infiltrated ACT because their own party is such a basket case have finally killed the party off. For years their influence has been at the root of the internal dissent that has plagued ACT, and because of this dissent, the party has been continuously unable to shape its brand. Nobody has ever been able to work out what the hell ACT is about, and its all been down to the Libertarians who can’t even make their own party work because it suffers from the same bitter internal ructions.
The prime objective of the NZ Libertarians (in spite of their protestations otherwise) has always been the liberalising of attitudes to homosexual behaviour and drugs. They continually preach the lie that drugs in society cannot be controlled, when societies all over the world where drug use is minimal (compared to NZ) show all that is required is that a government and its citizens possess the will to stop drugs and they can be stopped.
The Association of Consumers and Taxpayers was a party formed to pursue free market economic ideas, and received significant support when it followed this course. However, once it was infiltrated by social liberals, the party’s founding principles began to take second place to a confused and bitter set of Marxist driven attacks on Conservatives and traditional NZ social values.
Liberalisation of drugs and homosexual behaviour just do not matter. If there was a list of things to do in NZ, I’d put these items maybe at number 999 on the list. The Libertarians put them at the top.
Don Brash’s call for the liberalisation of Marijuana laws just will not fly. Its an act of desperation by a party that has (sadly) been in its death throes for a few years. I can hear Lindsay Perigo right now. “Nothing else has worked so what have we got to lose?” I’ll answer that- those precious few votes that might have got you over the 5% threshold, and most likely Epsom. Even the Watermelons had the sense to leave it out.

If this is true then Act has clearly dropped the ball. My previous support of Act has been based on two things: Rodney Hide (who I believe to be an honorable man, despite his slip-up on the perks issue), and opposition to the ETS. But when it comes to a contest betweem the ETS and drugs, it’s no contest. Why? Because while the ETS is a nonsense, it basically only involves money, whereas drugs adversely affect human lives in a very direct way. Yes I know that the ETS can indirectly affect lives through things like the elderly not being able to afford electricity so going without heating, but drugs are far more pernicious. What on earth is Don Brash thinking? [I’m tempted to ask what is he on?]

Don Brash failed to bring the lift in polls he predicted and he’s therefore powerless within the party. Brash may not have agreed with this personally (although he may have) but I’d guess he’s been persuaded to run with it by the back roomers like Perigo, who have been pushing this for decades.

I voted Libz last time in protest. I’m against their stance on drugs and faggotry, but small govt less tax etc appealed.
I wasn’t aware they were so influential in ACT. Looking like the party vote goes to Craig.

It will go down like a lead balloon on the Nth Shore. (where Brash is standing). And can you imagine John Banks selling this to the good citizens of Epsom?? WTF..???

Good pithy post RB. And from my experience with ACT over the last seven or 8 years, what you say is absolutely true.

RIP ACT and Don Brash.
Give me men with principles and moral integrity; who are not prepared to compromise with evil. Men who are prepared to stand up and speak out about all that is wrong with this country. Men of good conscience, faith and morals, who are prepared to be leaders of men, and I will show you the way forward for this nation of ours.

Rod Hide once said to me, “the enemy of better is best”. He was referring to the Libertarians and their addiction to doctrine and their preoccupation with Objectivist ideological perfection.
Really, the Libertarians since they’ve prostrated themselves to Objectivism have just been a stone in the shoe of NZ politics. ACT could have amounted to something if not for those ranting ideologically constipated dumb pricks infiltrating the party.
And the same kind of socially liberal white ants, (Farrar, Nikki Kaye, for example) are destroying the Nats from the inside too.

And for ACT’s final act (sorry), watch John Banks attempt a death-defying 7.0 on the Shark Jump, when he announces ACT’s policy on Marriage. In a leaked copy of the announcement, Banks is rumoured to be warming up for:
“ACT will advocate for a change to the Marriage Act, which discriminates against any loving combination that is not one male, one female. Those who practice homosexuality, bisexuality, polygamy, polyamy and incest are directly disciminated against by this archaic piece of legislation. We know the informal, non-legitemised practice of homosexuality and bisexuality occurs in inner-city suburbs of all our major cities, and that polygamy, polyamy and incest occurs on a regular basis in the Waikato, along the east coast of the North Island and the west coast of the South Island. We will speak on behalf of this downtrodden, silent minority.”
WIth that final note, ACT is set to quit twitching, and be confined to the annals (sorry again) of New Zealand political history.

RB, I basically agree with most of what you say but I can see little option this election but to stick with ACT because of other policies but make my views known in regard this poorly thought out policy kite flying. Don needs to be educated as to the hard dope can do not only to the individual but family, friends, employers and society in general.

Chuck I know ACT has a lot of good people but its just too unstable. Perigo and other social liberals and Libertarians should go away and form their own party. Oh wait…..

So, given Chris Simmons and John Banksboth oppose decriminalisation, how much of this policy announcement is just Brash and Perigo making shit up on the run?

Slightly O/T (well not really – since the post is about sopping wet liberals), NeverHadA Farrar has a post up today about Family First’s rating of the party leaders (no link because I don’t want to pollute your blog, RB). In typical NeverHadA fashion, he tries to ridicule Family First (“I always find an election guide by Family First as very useful, but in reverse” and “Interesting that Key and Goff are two of the three at the bottom. Well done guys.”).
He’s being absolutely destroyed in the comments:
Of course there are the usual apologists out in force and it’s descended into the usual vile, bitter mixture of ad hominem and social liberal gospel/truthiness, but fuck it’s funny when the left gets its arse handed to it!

It needs to happen more often. Farrar, and a whole bunch of like wet liberals infesting National, need to be told to pack their bags from National and piss of and work for Labour. They don’t have the faintest idea what National is meant to be about.

Brash needs to tell the preaching Perigo to fuck off back to the Libertarians, or SOLO or wherever the hell he hangs out now.

ACT has always been so divided, it’s a wonder the party has survived this long really. I wonder what Brash is trying to accomplish with this. If anything I think he’ll just drive people away from ACT. This definitely pushes my vote toward Colin Craig’s party.
I’ve personally seen long term effects of this shit on intelligent people and it’s turned them into worthless layabouts. I’d prefer not to live in a society that encourages people to be drug fucked morons. We already have enough of them.

I’m with you Angus. I’m sick of hearing this crap as well. Farrah and his band of bleeding heart interchangeable-with-Labour social liberals (for one prominent example) make me more and more nauseous every day.

Hey Gantt, I really mean what I said above- Conservatives have to start coming out against this bullshit and challenge the loud mouthed social liberals who are dominating the argument. Hooton, Cactus, Farrar and his pathetic bunch of supporters, they’re (among a whole lot of others) the ones to blame for National’s current useless condition, and they’ve got away with far too much for far too long.
