According to Kiwibog, the government thinks the Police have done a poor job on election law enforcement. Judith Collins is suggesting a new bureaucracy will be set up to investigate and prosecute election law breaches.

I think the real problem is the Electoral Finance Act. The original Act (Annette King) was revised and re-instituted by National (Simon Power) and is a legal mish mash. The police can’t prosecute because the law is unenforceable. And in any case, how will any new prosecution office avoid being labeled politically partisan witch hunters?

The whole thing is a crock, and I see it becomeing more of a crock if any new prosecution agency is established.
