Polyfest and Red Cross, what humbug

Radio NZ reports

The organisers of Auckland’s Polyfest have backed down on a decision to bar Red Cross from collecting donations for Vanuatu.

Red Cross said the organisers told them they would never allowed collectors in the past, and they did not want people at the event to feel compelled or uncomfortable about handing over money.

Don’t want people to feel compelled to hand over money????

That’s funny, because I and every other NZ taxpayer was compelled to do just that when Pacific Peoples Minister Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga gave the festival a $200,000 grant in February this year “to ensure the event’s financial future”. Not to mention buying the votes of a few parasites who use democracy as a means to bleed other taxpayers.

(Peseta Sam Lotu-Iaga is a National MP and is Minister of Corrections, Minister for Ethnic Communities, Minister for Pacific Peoples, and Associate Minister of Health.)

Heaven help us, asking Polynesians to give to help their South Pacific neighbours? Or is charity just a one way street?
