National Party’s Nick Smith hands out another $776,000 of taxpayer money

The Government is to provide $776,000 from the Waste Minimisation Fund for a new Marlborough waste sorting facility, Environment Minister Dr Nick Smith announced today during a visit to the Marlborough District Council’s Resource Recovery Centre in Blenheim with Kaikōura MP Stuart Smith.

“This grant is about supporting innovation in waste management to enable the diversion of 8000 tonnes of material going to landfill per year and ensuring that both this iconic region and New Zealand better lives up to our clean, green brand,” Dr Smith says.

What party is this loser in again? Maybe he should quit National and stand for the Green’s leadership. Says Smith-

“This grant is part of National’s Bluegreen approach to environmental issues, where we support practical projects that will make a positive difference to our environment.

I’d say Smith and his local council cronies are working hard to drive up the cost of landfills and make these idiot recycling ideas work. There are plenty of references out there that prove the premises of recycling, that it helps the economy and the environment, are abject nonsense.

Here’s one and here’s another.

Even Hong Kong, which is hard pressed for suitable sites, has given up on recycling and gone back to landfills.

Not that Smith worries. His objective is to make himself look good and to hell with what it costs NZ taxpayers.
