The left wing garbage coming from the completely lost National Party never stops. Led by the poll driven socialist surrender monkey John Key, we now see the party advocating for the completely discredited left wing idea that education failure is down to a lack of funding.
The govt spends $16 billion of taxpayer’s earnings on public education. That’s around $8000 a year from every tax positive taxpayer whether they have children attending public school or not.
ACT pushed charter schools, and as poor a substitute as they are for a fully private education sector (being subject to ridiculously intrusive and counter productive govt regulation) they suggest the govt is on one hand ready to accept the idea that the quality of education is not dependent on govt funding.
So why on the other hand to they adopt policies that directly conflict with this view? Education Minister Hekia Parata has just announced that over the next four years, just over $43 million of operating funding will be allocated to schools based on the number of students they have who are at risk of under-achieving.
“The targeting is used to arrive at the allocation of funding. Once they receive the funding, how they raise achievement is up to schools,” she told reporters on Friday. Ms Parata said she trusts schools to spend the money on struggling students.
This policy has so many flaws I don’t know where to start. For example, its telling schools that under-achievement will bring them more dollars.
Worst of all though is that it is a surrender on ideological terms. Once again we see yellow backed John Key taking the easy way out, preserving his own popularity at taxpayer expense because he hasn’t got the balls or the ideas on how to confront the left on their fallacious mantras like more money for education means better results. John Key is just Tweedle Dee to Andrew Little’s Tweedle Dum.
As for Hekia Parata, a clueless token Maori female who’s never had a good idea in her whole parliamentary career. What a hopeless endless socialist quagmire NZ has drifted into.

Bad luck for you with all your prejudices. The social data shows conclusively that kids who are children of long term beneficiaries, have a parent in prison, have a close relation who has a CYPF notification and whose mother has low level of qualifications are up two years behind their peers when they enter school and that they continue to be lapped. There is no reputable evidence that school structure impacts on these factors. Why would it? They spend far more time with their often dysfunction families than they do at school and that’s where the emotional destruction occurs. You might imagine in the unscientific world you live in that carrot juice cures cancer and charter schools cure social disadvantage but the reason it looks that is that charter schools, by various devious means, get kids like this off the books and replace them with the children of more motivated parents. Not that the truth matters when so many Act Party members and fellow travellers have been able to use the charter school subterfuge to bury their snouts deep into the trough of taxpayer funding.

Bronwyn, if the problems are really as you state they are in your first three or four lines then how can more money at the school fix it?
It seems more to me that the social breakdown you describe cannot be fixed by money but rather by regrowing respect for marriage and the patriarchal family unit.

Well gee there’s a surprise. Hack for the teachers’ union doesn’t like charter schools. I wonder why a union hack would advocate against market-based principles for education, and in favour of the National Socialists’ plan to keep throwing an ever-increasing amount of good money after bad at failing schools.
If indeed “The social data shows conclusively that kids who are children of long term beneficiaries, have a parent in prison, have a close relation who has a CYPF notification and whose mother has low level of qualifications are up two years behind their peers when they enter school and that they continue to be lapped” then continuing to do what has been happening for the past decades – pouring good money after bad – is a recipe for continued failure. If indeed the union hack’s assertion is correct, then surely not only are Charter Schools the answer, but Charter BOARDING Schools will be far more effective than failing public school?
I wonder what would happen if the dysfunction of which the union hack complains weren’t funded by the taxpayer, both in terms of inter-generational welfare dependency and funding failing schools.
