Bruce Walker is a prolific writer on Conservative issues. Here he addresses one of the Conservative’s most profound problems- As individuals, how can we form a force with enough power to defeat the current social hegemony of the socialist collectivists?
——————————–
We (Conservatives) are individuals, and individual liberty is the primary purpose of our political philosophy. We write and we think — both solitary activities. We host talk radio shows, as Rush has done for more than twenty years, sublimely indifferent to demands to conform. We find no livelihood in the belly of universities or similar ideological fortresses, and so we are self-supporting, small, sometimes one-man organizations. We are, in short, guerrillas in the rhetorical wars for our nation and our culture.
This structure of the war for our society can dispirit us. It seems, sometimes, as if the foul banners of our enemies stretch for miles, and the trudging feet of these conscripted troops sound unstoppable. But we know better. Those who fight with us, those marksmen like the riflemen of Bennington, are wholly committed to our cause, while dull draftees of Occupy Wall Street have no real notion of why they fight us, except for the most infantile propaganda which melts away at the first question from a doubting journalist.
We, on the other hand, know that our comrades in arms really believe in the common cause of conservatism, which is simply shorthand for ordered liberty. The left is filled with conflicting warlords, plied with booty and solemnly reciting profound silliness. Leave ordinary people alone and, except for some sociopaths and masochists, they quickly become “conservatives.”
Totalitarians, ultimately, are simply frauds. There is abundant evidence that the Nazis, for example, believed in nothing but nihilistic power, eschewing even Nazism’s touted racial theories. The Politburo, likewise, long before 1991 held no one who really believed in the pseudo-science of Marxism; people joined the party for power, perks, and privilege — and nothing else. Mao believed in nothing at all, except the delight of holding a long lash over the backs of hundreds of millions.
What are we? We are the guerrillas. We can survive without a long and snaking supply train and without cadres of obnoxious political officers. We know our objective — the grand resurrection of freedom and decency in our nation — and we also know that leftist leaders are little more than colonial governors whose careers are built on putting us in our place.
Does “guerrilla conservatism” sound bad? It should not: it is the very foundation of our republic.

And like most guerrilla wars- you have to be prepared for the long haul.

I hadn’t heard the term ‘guerilla conservatism’ before; it will now be one of my favourites. One sees in the guerilla fighter a true ‘freedom fighter’, and this is one of the terms the Left has stolen which most rankles me. They fight not for freedom but compulsion, compliance and conformity. We, on the other hand, seek true freedom. Theirs has been a long march through the instutitions of society over more than half a century. Restoring the West will be a long, bloody battle, but we shall prevail.

I know when I talk about politics with Joe Average, they really respond in a way lefties ideas could never illicit, especially when I talk about Law and Order or the woeful state of our military – and especially when I talk to people from Asia and Africa. They know they first job of government is to protect citizens from criminals and outside threats and for all the taxes we pay NZ government fails on both of these two core scores – and miserably.

I continue to be staggered by the abject ignorance that exists in NZ politics concerning Conservatism.
People are so full of BS on the issue the left have obviously been winning the propaganda war far too easily.
We have been silent, while the left have been (as usual) steadily pumping out a stream of lies and misinformation and it is this propaganda that forms the basis of the average NZer’s abysmal knowledge of Conservatism.
