Air New Zealand- Government Owned Airline “Wins” Government Contract

Business Day NZ reports that Air New Zealand has “won” a large government contract.

Air New Zealand has been awarded the New Zealand government contract as the sole preferred supplier for all domestic travel and a preferred supplier for international travel for all government agencies.

No doubt the award of this contract was a fully transparent process subject to the usual competitive pricing criteria, and evaluated so as to give the NZ taxpayer maximum value per dollar.

The 74 per cent state-owned airline said the five year contract, its largest, provided surety to continue in its multi-billion dollar investment programme in new aircraft and technology.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Yeah right.

After all, its only your money. Why should you be told how its being spent?

There was once a time when all contract bids were made public knowledge.

I heard Air NZ was looking sick again. Hope this wasn’t just another government bail out in disguise.

Yep. Like to know if there were any bids from any other airlines, and what the value of them was. They’d say that’s commercially sensitive information, but as I said, it was once common practice to make all bids for a contract public knowledge in the interests of competition.

“..step aside a new age is coming.”
Oh, it’s coming all right, D4J.
A new age where the bastards don’t even have to hide their corruption and incompetence from an apathetic, uninformed population drugged out on welfare and soapies. Where they own the judiciary and the police and they and their mates can pillage and plunder with impunity.
Where people who actually do the work and pay taxes are slaves in all but name and most of them aren’t even aware of the fact.
    That’s your New Age coming.

I don’t remember the details, but someone was once extolling the virtues of democracy to an East European politician. The politician listened and replied that his system was “absolutism moderated by assassination”.
    Perhaps he had a point……

Every 20 cent country on earth wants its own flag carrier.
An understandable belief system for the economically dyslexic aviation unions.

When the comrades run the “sovereignty” concept as a joke…. in areas from immigration to defence why would I choose a slack cabin service purveyed by overweight heifers with nil visual diversion when i can fly Singair??

D4J, calm down for a minute, difficult as that is when you’re angry. It’s not reasonable to expect a blog owner to carry comments which may be actionable in law. He may choose to make such comments himself and accept the risk but it’s not reasonable to ask him to carry that risk for others.

Y’know KG, I have never said a word against this guy, and I have frequently taken his side when everybody else has been against him, and in return for this he writes this crazy off topic stuff all over my blog and then attacks me when I delete it.

      Pretty piss poor really.

Yeah, I’ve seen you defend him. Perhaps he’s having a crappy day. God knows he’s had a few of those.
Hopefully he’ll come back in a better frame of mind. 🙂

Definitely a Bailout. Air NZ has about $1,200,000,000 of tax payers money at risk in it and they get about a $40,000,000 ROI on average (excluding the initial bailout). You get better, safer returns on term deposits.

I remember arguing with the dead heads on the Stranded about why they support the government owning Air NZ when they (pretend to) believe global warming is coming to kill us all.
