General Debate 14/02/11

Oil drillers in the Gulf of Mexico as the residual impact of Obama’s recently lifted moratorium on deepwater drilling bites harder and the new safety regulations impact on shallow water drillers who cannot get permits to drill without passing arduous safety checks.

I was impressed by a comment left on a site discussing the situation-

This effort at destroying the American econ is by design. It frustrates me when I hear people try to say the leftist are just “stupid and don’t understand the damage…” they do understand. Just do a little research and find out who these people are..Carol Browner, Lisa Jackson, Sunstein et al. They have a plan and the idea of American exceptionalism is not part of it.

For years now we have heard from the Left how America is a terrible place and a corrupt idea and needs to be diminished so that the rest of the world can rise up (assumption being that America is holding down the rest of the world through oppression and theft). Just like what we should have done with Bin-Laden, pay attention to what they say because they mean it. Back in the late nineties Sec. of State Madlin Albright gave a speech in which she stated in effect “…we don’t want to be the world’s lone super power..”.

Well… welcome to the implementation of that idea, it is no mistake that permits are not being issued. It is no mistake that Texas, one of the few states that is weathering the recession better than most, is under assault by the EPA . It is no mistake that the Fed is printing money like there is no tomorrow. It is no mistake that at every turn private industry is being attacked in this country by regulation, taxes, fees, unions, environmentalis t and Leftist politicians..they have told us over and over that is what they are going to do..and guess what boys and girls they are doing just that.

  1. It is getting worse everywhere, a friend of mine has been developing property for a couple of decades and has noticed a downward trend…

Between leaky buidings and the ever increasing regulations, he reckons each new home costs at least $40,000 than it should and carries a much higher risk than in the past, is it any suprise the screaming about housing affordability has grown over this period… All because property apparently now means, council property, and the government has so ineptly guaranteed products than the principle of buyer beware has been so eroded, innocent and guilty tradesman are being prosecuted alike…

  2. Its the same everywhere Jeremy. I had the exact same conversation yesterday with two people from different commercial sectors. We have allowed these big power/control/regulate sectors to be built, and now we must tear them down.

  3. Some blacks in the US are beyond help.

Brenda Speaks, a Ward 4 ANC commissioner, actually urged blocking construction of the planned store in her ward at Georgia and Missouri avenues NW partly because of that risk. Addressing a small, anti-Wal-Mart rally at City Hall on Monday, Speaks said young people would get criminal records when they couldn’t resist the temptation to steal.

  4. Unbelievable. This is what we get for allowing the left to take over the education system. A generation or two or three of indoctrinated morons with absolutely no ability to think logically.

  5. @RB, it actually favours entreprenueral guys – all this regulation…

A friend of mine and I are considering setting up a club security company because new licensing regs are about to come down for door staff… Gone will be the days of owners hiring guys on their own… Because my friend and I are determined to succeed, if the numbers stack up and we go through with incorporation, we’ll cross the t’s and dot the i’s and have a market to us and a few others… It doesn’t help the enterprising security worker who wants to get ahead but sees the obstacles (and now massively increased costs) in his way…

I can guarantee you it will not make the profession any better, it’ll just increase costs to owners…

And the left wonders why the rich get richer… *Face Slap*
