An emotive headline, but for God’s sake, is there no end to this lunacy? Is a revolution the only way sanity can be restored? It seems like the democratic system has been rendered completely worthless. This kind of institutional idiocy just continues on unabated no matter who is elected. It has to be stopped.

Residents in Surrey and Kent villages have been ordered by police to remove wire mesh from their windows as burglars could be injured.

Home owners in the villages of Tandridge and Tatsfield in Surrey and in Westerham, Brasted and Sundridge in Kent have said they are furious that they are being branded ‘criminals’ for protecting their property.

Locals had reinforced their windows with wire mesh after a series of shed thefts but were told by community police officers that the wire was ‘dangerous’ and could lead to criminals claiming compensation if they ‘hurt themselves’.

Honestly, I just do not know what to say anymore.

  1. Fill me in here. I always thought it was English common law that one cannot legally benefit from a crime.

    What is this? Isn’t it the equivalent of workman’s compensation? Who installed the rules that ALLOW “criminals claiming compensation if they ‘hurt themselves’?”
    The yob’s job is burglary: so therefore it’s the duty of the state to pay if he gets hurt on the job?
    And in the interests of cutting govt costs, they’re telling owners of “burglary employment establishments” how to make the place safe for the “workers?”

    I keep saying sarcasm, satire, irony, facetiousness are all dead. I’m waiting to hear someone agree. In bizarro world, the irony must be in hearing of normalcy and thinking there must be something wrong with the accounting.

  2. The property owners should refuse. It looks like they are not being threatened with any legal action, and public opinion would support them were a burglar to hurt himself and sue, if that’s possible in Britain. If people point blank refused to do the ridiculous every single time, then it wouldn’t have got this far.

    Have a community meeting and vote unanamously to keep the mesh up.

  4. I have never been injuried in the act of committing a crime, I have a fool proof system. Its really quite simple…. I dont commit crime! Maybe these f*&%wits should try that.

    On a more serious note, all that is needed is parliament to pass a law explicitly stating that anyone injured whilst committing a crime is a. not permitted to sue b. liable to pay 100% of any medical treatment they recieve and c. liable to pay for the repair of any damage to property done during the criminal act.

  11. I am not being facetious by the way, just haven’t had much time to follow UK politics lately. If there is one thing you can say about David Cameron though is at least he is fucking doing something, unlike our sorry excuse for “tories”. Doesn’t seem afraid to take on the legiouns of welfare and student bludgers and public sector unions either.

    He’ll make all the right noises (as he did over the Lisbon Treaty etc) and nothing will change. Nothing.

  14. Well, Nick I may well be wrong–but looking at his record I can see nothing to give the Brits hope. The fact is, he’s constrained by the wet left Lib-Dems and he’s done nothing to roll back the EU’s influence on immigration or the justice system so far. He’s pro-EU which means he’s anti-liberty and anti-sovereignty.
