The NZ Herald’s Rachel Grunwell reports that enrollments at “Faith based” schools are accelerating-
About 66,000 children were in Catholic education last year, up a quarter since 1996. Over the same period the number of children in integrated schools rose by a third to more than 86,000. Integrated schools are former private schools which get some Government funding if they keep their special character. Almost all the 338 in New Zealand have a religious and values focus.
The surge in interest comes despite long waiting lists and bills for “donations” sometimes running into the thousands. Auckland’s Catholic Sacred Heart College had a waiting list of 500 but was “inundated every day” with interest from prospective parents, said headmaster Jim Dale. He said parents didn’t mind the $3000 annual donation because the school had a good reputation for academic success and a “holistic” values-based education.
Among the reasons suggested for the increased demand for non-secular education was “more non-religious parents wanting their children to have a values-based education, and the [better] academic records of integrated schools”. I could suggest another reason, and that is that secular government run schools controlled by far left unionists and with an abysmal success record are being more widely recognised as a complete and utter failure. Long past time for National to do something about vouchers, and remove the legislative obstacles Mallard and Labour put in place that make it harder for non government schools to kick off and evolve.

Free people who pay for their kid’s education are perfectly entitled to send their children to whatever school they want…
And as for religion being immoral..? I’ve never heard such crap in my life… Jog on back to the sewer from whence you came…

Isn’t it interesting that educational success and the acknowledgement of morality/values seem to go hand in hand.
Just as with modern (Leftist) state schools we see parallels between failing educational standards and the lack of morality/values being instilled into children.
And as for LRO’s link – what a load of self-referencing secular humanist crap! Repeating your lies will never make them true.
And as for your “Islamist, turning out Jihadists”, not all religions are equal. To use Islam in an attempt to denigrate Christianity, its polar opposite, is a joke!

Surprise, surprise. I’d bet that removing the hurdles that prevent real education choice, would result in an immediate depletion of the state schools and their perverted curriculum in lieu of schools that deliver “old fashioned” focus on actually learning the three “R’s” and building proper discipline, assisted by a healthy dose of competitive sports. Out with the feminazi, cultural marxist and pedophile agendas and in with solid learning of practical skills. Out with instructions about “rights” and adherence to the religion of mother earth, and in with teaching about responsibilities to fellow humans and learning about the value of true science.

I read yesterday where home schooled kids came 1st 2nd and 3rd in a spelling Bee somewhere. The standard of spelling coming from state schooled kids is atrocious. In fact, its well known that even the damn teachers can’t spell.

State schooling is great if you want your children indoctrinated with such things as The Story Of Stuff, The Inconvenient Truth, Daddy’s Room Mate and Heather Has Two Mommies.
No worries about your 14yo boys ever getting exposed to this stuff.
