“I Told Them Obama Was A Communist”

John Drew was a member leader of the Marxist students at Occidental College, starting in 1976 when he founded the precursor of the Democrat Socialist Alliance on campus. He knew Barack Obama at the time as a committed Marxist socialist.

The Obama I knew was nothing like the lifelong pragmatic centrist that he was pretending to be in the 2008 presidential campaign. When I talked politics with the young Obama, he expressed a profound commitment to bringing about a socialist economic system in the U.S. — completely divorced from the profit motive — which would occur, in his lifetime, through a potentially violent, Communist-style revolution.

Mr. Drew has written a great article about how all of the news and opinion sources we normally depend on to alert us to this kind of thing, refused completely to act upon the information he provided them with about Obama’s lifelong commitment to Communism. (example Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, the folks behind the Swiftboat ads, and the McCain campaign.)

We’re on our own folks. Read John Drew’s article here. It’s right on the damn button.

  1. I’m a little confused. Is the American Thinker an ex Communist himself, but has since changed? So wouldn’t that mean Obama, who flirted with the same stuff, also changed? Don’t most young University students lean left, and whilst some go completely leftist and join the Green Party, others do indeed grow out of it? I’m not particularly shocked at the moment.

It’s a bit like Hillary Clinton studying Saul Alinsky (another Community Organiser) and being offered a job to work under him, just as Obama would later be recruited by the same organisation [same link]. They are all connected, but it’s no longer a surprise.

  2. This is the interesting part:
“If Republicans are going to win in 2012, I think they need to make some changes so that they are more friendly to the whistle-blowers bringing them bad news about the Obama administration.”
I think he still doesn’t get it. It doesn’t matter who wins in 2012–the political establishment itself is profoundly hostile to the American people. The Tea Party is as much a threat to the Republican establishment as it is to the Dems.
The battle lines are drawn and it’s We,The People against Washington and Washington’s useful lemmings.

  3. Yep, that’s a valid point Zen, and it did actually cross my mind when I wrote the post. There is a difference. John Drew now writes for David Horowitz, which implies that like Horowitz himself, somewhere along the line Drew experienced an epiphany that turned him against the left.

I guess the suggestion is that judging by his words and actions, Obama has not suffered any such epiphany and is still committed to his hard core left wing goals. I don’t know about you, but to me, it seems that Obama is trying to make things happen just as he told John Drew he wanted them to in his youth.

I think Barack Obama and the hard core left would turn to violence at the drop of a hat. I think they’re just waiting for the right opportunity. Even trying to create it. Obama’s policies will have maximum negative impact on the poor and make them ripe for Marxist “revolutionaries” to exploit. Riots in the streets etc.

We’re already seeing this in Europe,

  4. McCain I understand completely (professional courtesy to another “maverick”), but ignored by Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, the folks behind the Swiftboat ads?

The information about Obama wasn’t like he came from a UFO, something that would be suicidal for a pundit to even mention. No, it was the same kind of info that was already out there. Why the goosiness on it, I can’t figure.

  5. I would add that I do have a conversion story. I remember the exact moment and place I was standing in McGraw Hall at Cornell University in the fall of 1983 when I realized I was no longer a Marxist. If Obama has a similar conversion story, then I haven’t heard it.

  6. Indeed August.
We’ve been waiting for a similar riveting tale of Oby’s conversion to Christianity.
    Should make a good film.
(Oby was certainly once a Muslim, it was a condition of enrolment at his Indonesian Muslim school).
