General Debate Thursday 09/12/10

“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were ever our countrymen.” – John Adams

  1. More strangulation of industry based on the fraudulant ETS and carbon emissions scam:

Solid Energy defends Southland lignite plan
By Stu Oldham on Thu, 9 Dec 2010

Solid Energy is defending its plans for Southland lignite after Parliament’s environmental watchdog suggested it made no sense for taxpayers to spend billions of dollars subsidising even one lignite-to-diesel conversion plant.

In a report released this morning, Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment Jan Wright urges Climate Change Issues Minister Nick Smith to amend the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) so large-scale lignite industries cannot get free carbon credits.

In Lignite and Climate Change: The high cost of low grade coal, Dr Wright says the ETS’ rules for the allocation of free carbon credits, which she calls a “taxpayer subsidy”, exposes the Government to potentially enormous financial risk.

Of course the National government made a rod for its own back (and therefore the entire country) by signing up to the whole ETS and ‘Climate Change’ fraud in the first place.
Get rid of these traitorous morons while there is still time!

  2. From the “It could only happen in the UK at Christmas” file:

Pull the other one: Cashiers face jail for selling Christmas crackers to under-16s
    By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 5:27 PM on 8th December 2010

Cashiers who sell Christmas crackers to people under 16 could face up to six months in prison, a retail group warned today.

Following legislation passed in August, crackers are now classified as low-grade fireworks – and can only be sold to those over the age of 16.

Stores face financial penalties and individual shop assistants could be jailed or fined up to £5,000 if they sell crackers to under-age people, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) said.

  3. The gift that keeps on giving:

Wong says 2005 trip didn’t involve business

National MP Pansy Wong is denying her husband Sammy was involved in any business activity when he visited China’s Fujian Province in 2005 on a taxpayer-subsidised trip.

In Parliament yesterday Labour MP Pete Hodgson said that in June 2005 Sammy Wong used taxpayer funding to travel to Fujian Province and on the morning after he arrived he helped former prime minister Jenny Shipley launch a biotechnology centre in which Shipley had shares.

Hodgson said Mr Wong told investigator Hugh McPahil that he went to Fujian Province for genealogical research.

Mrs Wong said he was invited to the foundation stone-laying ceremony by family friends who were majority shareholders in the project.

She said their friends knew Mr Wong was planning to visit the province to meet relatives and “chase his origins”, and invited him to the ceremony.

“There was no business interest, absolutely not,” she said on Radio New Zealand.

Whether or not there was any business interests, there was certainly MORE going on than just a little geneological research. Unless, of course, Jenny Shipley was also primarily there as Mr Wong’s research assistant …

  4. It did get caught up in the spam filter Kris for some unknown reason. Sorry for the delay in fixing it I’ve been out of internet for a while today.

BTW, have you received that DVD yet?

  5. I see those two morons Groser and Smith are over in Cancun sucking up to the global socialists as usual. What a damn disgrace that our international image on this issue is down to those two shifty lamers.

  6. “BTW, have you received that DVD yet?”

Just went up and checked my mail and it had arrived – must have in the last couple of days.

Thanks very much for that, Red – I really appreciate it 🙂

    I’m being nosey here:
From the postage mark on the DVD did you have some work in that particular region? – I know you get around the place with your work. And are you back now to home base?

  7. Hey Red,
Just listened to about the first 20 mp3 files of “Ann Coulter – How to Talk to a Liberal” from my DVD early Christmas present 😉

She really is very good – witty, intelligent and articulate – and you can see why the Left hate her viscerally. I must try and pick up the softback version as well.
