The NZ Herald reports that “Louisa Wall has won the candidacy for the safe Labour seat of Manurewa [..] Ms Wall, who had the support of the Service Workers, the Maritime and the Amalgamated Workers unions, beat the other front-runner, Jerome Mika, an official for the Engineering Printing and Manufacturing Union.”
Poor Jerome. If he had been queer, he might have had a better chance.
This reminds me of the Democrats leaders in the US. Whereas the electorate delivered them a resounding message in the half term elections, they refuse to change their ways and even fought to have the soviet style Nancy Pelosi remain as their house speaker. In NZ, Labour is struggling for support in the NZ mainstream, but insists on electing the like of Louisa Wall as their representatives. The left- in their own minds, they can never be wrong.

Like the Dems in the US, NZ Labour is now so full of people who are so far to the left they are long since detached from the cloth-capped workingmen’s party they claim to be. The next time they gain control of the treasury benches, it could just as well be curtains for the place. . . and the Nats, who are currently just treading water (at best) ain’t helping either.
