What the hell is going on when somebody as discredited as Dan Rather is still giving speeches? I came across an article in the magazine of the American University in Washington DC reporting on a recent address by this fraudulent scammer to one of their journalism groups. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. The man is completely delusional. Nowhere does he indicate an iota of shame for his disgraced exit from CBS evening news, the program he fronted for 24 years.

In 2004 Rather was deeply implicated in a scandal wherein forged documents relating to President Bush’s National Guard service were presented as genuine. Even after they were revealed to be forgeries by bloggers from Free Republic, Rather stuck to his story. Eventually though he was forced to retract. The implication of an inquiry was that the 60 Minutes crew and Rather had conspired in the forgery. This charge was never actually proved but four producers of the show were fired immediately. Rather “retired” soon after in 2005.

In his speech at American University Rather makes the following observations-

“The increasingly biased media will threaten the U.S. A free and independent press is the red beating heart of democracy and freedom. Today’s correspondents give more lip service and less facts to support their stories. We can’t let journalism sacrifice itself on the altar of entertainment.”

and to cap it off-

“If you’re going to be a journalist worthy of the name, you’d better take the attitude ‘if you’re looking for a friend, then get a dog.’ Because if you do this job the way you’re supposed to do it, there’s always going to be someone trying to bring you down and they’ll bring you down,” he said. “But if you have a passion for doing, if you burn with a white, hot flame for doing it, that doesn’t matter as much as what you see as your mission in life which is getting to as close to the truth as you can.”

Pardon me while I vomit. Rather typified the dirty leftist journalism that laid the foundation for the even more corrupt and sickening edifice it is today. He never was anything but the most disgusting leftist propagandist, and in the end just pushed it too far and was tripped up by his own bigotry and politically partisan hatred for George Bush.

I’m amazed Rather is lecturing at any university. I thought he would be wasting away as a recluse somewhere, too ashamed to be seen in public. That he actually presumes to lecture on journalism, and actually gets invited to do so by such as The American University DC, is a measure of just how politically corrupt higher education has become under the almost complete control of the left.

Anyone who truly aspired to be a creditable journalist ( big ask after the craft has been recently brought to the most disreputable low ever) should make every effort to distance themselves from someone who has done the profession so much harm over such an extended period, and exited under such a cloud. Rather is a humbug and a fraud who wouldn’t know truth if it was chewing his arse off. He shouldn’t be within a bull’s roar of any reputable training institute.
