DENVER — A Centennial-based organization has canceled an upcoming charity event featuring Sarah Palin, citing safety concerns. The Sharon K Pacheco Foundation announced Saturday that the 2011 Patriots & Warriors Charity Gala scheduled for May 2 would not be held. “Due to an onslaught of personal attacks against Governor Palin and others associated with her appearance, it is with deep sadness and disappointment that, in the best interest of all, we cancel the event for safety concerns,” said the Foundation’s Director.

The foundation says the recent increase in negative rhetoric against the former Alaska governor “raises concern for her safety and the safety of others despite the call for civility in America,” following the tragic Tucson shooting. The organization plans to host the event at some point in the future, featuring another speaker.

Meanwhile, a couple of newspapers have reported an email making the rounds in the National party that jokes about Maggie Barry’s political ambitions. The jokes are focused upon her lack of political experience and message. I’m heartened by this news. That such cynicism can apparently dwell deep within the confines of the derelict hulk that is National may mean there is a spark of hope there after all.

  1. Have you seen this? It’s pretty much what it says in the title: there’s a graph of potential Republican presidential candidates for 2012, ranked along “moderate-conservative” axes (self-explanatory) and “insider-outsider” axes (how well they fit in with the party establishment). Bubble size represents their odds on Intrade (an iPredict-style website), and colour the region of the country they’re from. Interesting, I thought.

  2. Hmm very interesting article…

It struck me while reading it that Palin should approach Huckabee before Iowa for her to run at the nomination with him as VP candidate if she wins… Just a thought…

  3. I would be surprised if Palin would run with Huckabee. The established GOP figures are all out. They are the ones who allowed Obama to take over. They cannot lead, and they will not lead.

  4. Huckabee hasn’t been a Governor for a long time now… He maybe established, a RINO, etc. but he isn’t an “insider” currently…

It also helps to remember that VP (while having symbolic power during a campaign) it one of the least powerful jobs in American politics… A Congressmen can get more done…
