Impeach Obama For Sending The US to War Without Congressional Approval

Crusader Rabbit has already done a post on this issue, but considering what a serious transgression of Constitutional law this really is, it deserves a lot more coverage. Obama has engaged in war with Libya without the slightest deference to his country’s congress.

Congress, alone, has the power to declare war, and to make all the laws necessary to engage in military conflict.

The War Powers Act defines the precise process that the President must follow before leading the country into war. George Bush followed this process exactly as he should have before committing the US to the war in Iraq. Obama ignored it and virtually allowed the UN to assume sovereignty over the US Congress.

I fail to see how this can be seen to be any less than an act of treason. At the very least, it has to be worthy of impeachment. It demonstrates Obama’s complete lack of respect for the American Constitution, and his arrogant disregard for the Constitutional Republic that he has sworn to defend. Henry Lamb has written an excellent article on the matter-

This event is proof-positive evidence of two staggering realities: Obama refuses to accept the limitations on government, and particularly on his office, imposed by the Constitution, and Obama considers the United Nations to be a higher authority than Congress. This event should be grounds for severe congressional censure, if not impeachment.

This issue is far more serious than simply pointing out again the duplicitous action (or inaction) of the progressive left. The fact that Obama disregarded the Constitution while submitting to the United Nations Security Council, and engaging the U.S. military on the authority of a few leaders of other nations gathered in Paris, is behavior that cannot go unchallenged. Obama’s action is not simply endorsement of global governance; it is submission to it.

The meeting in Paris on March 19, attended by Hillary Clinton and representatives from other nations, was a group of “state actors issuing guidance and control mechanisms” that resulted in the bombing of a sovereign nation – using U.S. military assets without congressional approval. This action is global governance in action. Global governance must be rejected and national sovereignty reaffirmed as the only authority that governs the citizens of the United States.

This is a serious breach of protocol that the president should never have signed off on. He should be impeached, but the numbers in the house are unlikely to support it. (If a simple majority of the House votes in favor of impeachment, the government official goes on trial in the Senate. Conviction requires a two-thirds super-majority vote.) I think its a far greater transgression myself. For willingly and contemptuously allowing a foreign power to assume supremacy over the US Congress, Obama should have to resign as Richard Nixon did and then be charged with treason.

Update- It appears even some Democrats agree this is an impeachable offence.

  1. For someone who has dithered for so long you would think he would have had time to deal with this.
For someone so supposedly intelligent and cerebral with a fine legal mind, you might think he would know to dot the i’s and cross the t’s.
    He truly is incompetent.

  2. This is Hilliary’s war. The mindless buffoon was busy playing with his communists friends in Brazil when he was check-mated by her. Still he gave the go ahead and has to face the consequences.

This is part of a deliberate program to hand world governance to the UN.

  5. Incompetent, FFM? I think not.
‘Obama, As Red as It Gets
Isn’t it about time that the mainstream media and all others begin to examine the record and conclude that a Communist holds the reins of power in the White House?
Since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, it is often believed that Communism died with it. Not so; Communism is alive and well in China, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela.
……It’s not like Barack Hussein Obama has come out and said, “Yes, I’m a Communist”, but you don’t have to have a PhD in Political Science to connect the dots. The process is made murky by the way Obama has deliberately covered his tracks wherever he could, while dropping broad hints…’

  6. Impeachable I can see, but treason requires “giving aid and comfort to the enemy” or something like that, doesn’t it? How do you reckon it might be treason?

  7. Treason covers more than that. The suggested reason is covered in the post. Allowing the UN, basically an alien or foreign government, to usurp the powers and responsibilities of the US Congress.

  8. So Obama deliberately allowed himself to be photographed looking like an insensitive tosspot while enjoying samba in Brazil?
I thought the pic I posted at my place just highlighted his cold callousnessness, by showing him enjoying himself when there is war and so much suffering going on.

  9. Article Three of the Constitution says

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.

Now, it’s not hard to see that the actions in Libya might be illegal, but I don’t think this qualifies as treasonous under the Constitutional definition. It probably would if you classified the United Nations as an “Enemy”, but the US Govt isn’t going to do that any time soon.

  10. The United Nations encompasses many a country that could be regarded as the enemy. Libya for example, which enjoys special status there as sitting on various chairs and commissions.

Obama has to act in accordance with the War Powers Act referred to above. He has not. Furthermore he has allowed a foreign body to usurp the power and authority of the US Congress. This is a transgression that requires a much more punitive measure than impeachment.

  11. Hat-tip to Marginal Revolution for finding this:

The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.
