Nick Smith is one of the biggest skunks in the National Party, and given the level of skunkness therein, that is really saying something. This communist loser, elected each term by the idiots who live in the Nelson region, is still pushing propaganda designed to underpin his (and his cronyist mate Groser’s) desperate seeking of the favour of various global socialist groups. He’s sold out the NZ productive sector and its wealth producers to a shadowy group of international crooks and cronyists at the utterly discredited United Nations and other such havens of crooked socialist control freaks.
In his latest partisan report, prepared by bureaucrats whose jobs depend upon the scheme, Smith claims the ETS turned around the deforestation that occurred between 2005 and 2008. John Boscawen of ACT gives us the reality-
“what Smith fails to mention is that it was precisely because of the impending introduction of an ETS that the aggressive deforestation occurred. Land owners wishing to more productively use their land, for both their own benefit and that of New Zealand, converted their land from forestry to dairy – by felling in record numbers – before 1 January 2008 because of the costs that the ETS imposed on deforestation.”
So Smith and his cronyist self serving bureaucrats at the Dept of Climate Change are caught out in one major deception. There’s more though. Boscawen goes on-
“Similarly the Minister refers to an increase in afforestation since the scheme was implemented. This has only occurred because the subsidies provided by the ETS are so generous they are sufficient for foresters to be able to purchase high country marginal land, plant it with trees and take advantage of the one off benefit of approximately 200 tons of carbon per hectare afforded by the scheme. The Government is effectively giving away ‘free forests’ paid for by all New Zealanders through higher electricity, petrol and food prices. ”
Boscawen claims that the bogus report has been written primarily to give the disgusting charlatan Smith an excuse to carry through on the government’s plans to further increase electricity and fuel costs. The groundwork has been laid for the Key government to likely increase electricity prices by 5 per cent, and increase petrol prices by 3.5 cents a litre by the beginning of next year.
Beats me why so many NZers think voting for these braindead National party dumbarses over Labour is going to bring any real benefit.
