I suggest anybody with any interest in our news media should take the time to read Andrew Bolt’s article today on what goes on at the Melbourne Age, and how the left wing leanings of its editor Michael Gawenda shaped its staffing and its reporting and its opinion and editorial content.
Not one Conservative reporter or opinion writer on its staff. A shameful and cynical disregard for the objectivity they pretend to hold in high regard. Bolt writes-
Strangely enough, though, Gawenda’s memoir, American Notebook, just out, has plenty of evidence to confirm that if there’s any paper with a rigid bias, group-thinking staff and desperate shortage of columnists to challenge the paper’s orthodoxy, it’s the very one he edited for so long. And if you are looking for someone to blame, look not to Rupert Murdoch but to Gawenda himself.
Some excerpts:
“[Most Age journalists were] on the left: pro-environmentalist, pro-feminist (and) anti-American, especially when it came to American popular culture and American patriotism…
It was perhaps my greatest failure that in seven years as editor I had not discovered enough fresh talent for the op-ed pages. This failure was not mine alone: by and large, the academics who we tried out couldn’t write op-ed to save themselves. Finding conservative columnists was particularly hard.”
Hard? Other than sound me out, I doubt Gawenda did a damn thing to address the imbalance he claims now to deplore, and since he left the paper has lost the last staff columnists who could remotely be called conservative.
Yet communists like Gillard and Brown whine and complain and demand (and get) an inquiry into the media for perceived right wing bias.
Civilisation in the west is under attack from left wing blood sucking vampires in our media posing as journalists and editors. I have no doubt that the situation at the Age is duplicated at the NZ Herald and The Dominion Post. Please read Bolt’s column.

Front page of the local rag I learned that cat-chomping pitbulls have “whanau”. Five seconds and it looks like I wont be picking that paper up again for another couple of months.

Well said, Sika. Many kiwis (primarily those who make their way into local or national politics, the “public” “service” or any one of the army of clipboard-carrying, cardy-wearing “professions” charged with keeping people safe) have focussed so strongly on risk, they ignore reward. That’s why kids don’t climb trees any more, or make slingshots, or shoot BB guns.
We are a cowed, indoctrinated, wussified people. To what end, I wonder?
