Mr. Nice Guy Telling Porkies in Parliament? John Key and S & P Disagree on Meeting Comments

In Parliament last week, John Key claimed that Standard and Poor’s had told him at a meeting last month that “if there was a change of Government, that downgrade would be much more likely”.

Standard and Poor’s sovereign rating analyst Kyran Curry, who attended the meeting in Auckland, said that would not have happened.

“In Auckland last month, I might have talked about the importance of the Government maintaining a strong fiscal position in the medium term but I would never have touched on individual parties.

“It is something we just don’t do,” Mr Curry said. “We don’t rate political parties. We rate Governments.”

A very clear difference. Was Key telling parliament the truth, or did he make it up?

Not that I’ve got any faith in S & P, or National or the Labour government. They’re all part of the same socialist wrecking crew, and as much to blame as the other for the poor fiscal management that has brought the western world and NZ to the brink of utter financial disaster.
