Not often I’m for any kind of new legislation, but this is one of the rare occasions when it is a good idea.
The Republican Party is introducing a bill that will allow anyone who considers they are paying a rate of tax that is too low, to pay more if they so wish.
Basically, the Buffett Rule Act would require the IRS to include a line option on tax forms to donate money to the Treasury to pay down the deficit.
They can already do this of course, but because of the willful blindness of slimy hypocrites like Warren Buffet et all, the process apparently needs to be made easier. The Daily Caller reports-
According to the bill’s author, Republican Senator John Thune, there is nothing stopping Buffett from paying more in taxes, and his legislation would streamline that capability.
“If individuals like Warren Buffett or President Obama are inclined to donate their own personal money towards paying down the federal government’s debt, they ought to have that right to do so voluntarily,” said Thune.
“This bill would make it easier for those wealthy individuals who feel they are currently under-taxed to pay more to the U.S. Treasury, above and beyond their current obligations, without raising taxes on America’s job creators.
..if Warren Buffett and anybody else feels like they are not sending enough money to Washington, give them that option to do it voluntarily, but don’t go and change the tax laws to put an increased burden on others who are struggling to get by.”
Yep, let’s have similar legislation here. All politicians should be behind it as they’re always wanting to raise taxes. Gareth Morgan can pay as much as he thinks is necessary. Trevor Mallard and David Farrar, who loves public broadcasting, could chip in thousands of extra dollars.
Only one extra requirement. Just who is making these extra payments should be made public so we can see how many of these hypocritical socialists really want bigger and bigger and ever expanding government when they’re the ones who will be shamed into paying for it.
Somehow, I don’t reckon we’re going to be seeing a real long list of names.
