Some claim Obama is a not a legitimate President as he was not born in the US, but in Kenya, and this fact has been covered up.
Others agree Obama is not a legitimate President, but claim where he was born does not matter because in the first place, he does not meet Presidential “natural born citizen” requirements as specified in the American Constitution.
(For people recently educated in NZ’s government schools, the American Constitution is the country’s founding document and specifies many of the basic rules concerning how government should be operated in the US. As some clowns in NZ claim the TOW does to this country.)
What are these “natural born citizen” requirements? Again, there is some dispute over the exact meaning of this phrase, but it is generally accepted that a natural born citizen (different to a natural citizen, or a naturalized citizen) must have both a father and a mother who were themselves born in the US.
The founding fathers included this specification expressly to ensure that any US President was loyal to the US, and only to the US and not to any other country. Obama’s presidential style, having as its centerpiece an anti-US internationalist political view, is exactly what they sought to guard against.
Others claim a “natural born citizen” can come from parents who were not necessarily born in the US but were at least naturalized as US citizens before producing the child.
Either way Obama cannot get a pass as his father was never a US citizen. (although some dispute this).
However here is the rub. If this rule is applied to Obama, so must it be applied to Mitt Romney. There are reasonably credible stories (that I have yet to confirm –confirmed, see update below) that Mitt’s father was born in Mexico of a Mexican father and never became a naturalised US citizen. (Mormons settled in Mexico to avoid laws on monogamous marriages) IOW, Mitt fails to qualify as a “natural born citizen”. Same as Obama.
Could this all along be the reason behind the Republican Party’s obstinate reluctance to apply a Constitutional ruling to Obama’s presidency? They knew in doing so they would be hoist on their own petard and if Obama was kicked out, so would Mitt be deemed ineligible.
It’s obvious now that the Republican Party establishment had Mitt locked into the 2012 nomination four years ago. Were they therefore downplaying the Obama natural born citizen issue all this time expressly to avoid having to ditch Mitt? Maybe, maybe not, but if it ever turned out to be so, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
Mitt Romney’s father, George, was born in Colonia Dublan, one of the colonies in northern Mexico that the Romneys settled in after their arrival. His mother, Lenore LaFount Romney, was born in Utah.
When Romney’s father was five years old, the Mexican Revolution broke out and his parents moved back to the United States to avoid the violence. Mitt Romney was eventually born in Michigan.
George Romney quit his campaign for the Presidency in 1968 in a move that surprised many political observers. There was speculation at the time that he quit because of his non-American citizenship.
