A spokesman for a group wanting Obama to apologise during his planned Japan visit next week said this yesterday-
“Atomic bomb victims are demanding that it be made clear that the dropping of atomic bombs was inhumane and breaches international law, and that will be confirmed by his apology.”
Will Obama do it? Probably not, but he may. After all it would be an excellent chance for him once again to smear the US, something he loves to do.
Amazes me that any Japanese can complain of inhumane treatment and breaches of international law. Japan attacked Pearl Harbour without any declaration of war, and throughout the ensuing conflict, consistently murdered and mistreated prisoners of war in utter contempt of the Geneva Convention. Leaving aside their mistreatment of civilian populations.
Then when the war was clearly lost, they denied every call from the allies to surrender, and would have prolonged the war and condemned many of its own and allied soldiers to death by fighting for every island and Japan to the last man.
The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a terrible tragedy, but it was war, and if anyone ever had it coming, the Japanese did.
