General Debate 28/01/11

Researchers have discovered that contrary to popular belief half of the ice flows in the Karakoram range of the mountains are actually growing rather than shrinking. The discovery adds a new twist to the row over whether global warming is causing the world’s highest mountain range to lose its ice cover. It further challenges claims made in a 2007 report by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that the glaciers would be gone by 2035.

Although the head of the panel Dr Rajendra Pachauri later admitted the claim was an error gleaned from unchecked research, he maintained that global warming was melting the glaciers at “a rapid rate”, threatening floods throughout north India. The new study by scientists at the Universities of California and Potsdam has found that half of the glaciers in the Karakoram range, in the northwestern Himlaya, are in fact advancing and that global warming is not the deciding factor in whether a glacier survives or melts.

  1. Without the Maori Party Hone is castrated. Maori are fiercly tribal and his mana is non existent outside Northland.

The Maori Party itself is being carried by the virtues and academic prestige of Pita Sharples.

There is not going to be a Maori version of the Act Party thriving to any degree of success in parliament.

Act and the Greens are crumbling anyway. I think the public revolted in an underlying current to the treatment of Sue Bradford by the party. She took them to the mountaintop with the anti smacking bill and they dissed her in teh same manner as the NZRU did to Graham Hart when he won the world cup. In a strange sort of way I think the electorate picked up on the connotations and abandoned the Greens.

  2. The article about the glaciers cannot admit to being wrong. It’s hilarious.

“The proof about Global Warming was provided by these glaciers.

Turns out their is no proof of global warming from looking at these glaciers.

So we find it amazing that the Glaciers are growing in the midst of all this global warming. “

  3. I was recently in Northern India, they aren’t worried about flooding more than usual – they get the world’s biggest flood every year, it’s called the monsoon..!
